A Thanksgiving for One

I’m having an unusual Thanksgiving this year. I’m spending it on my own. Table for one please.

That’s just another thing I love about this holiday – in my family you never know how it is going to go. We’ve had holiday dinners with 40, with six, with 20, with two of us and now this year it’s a solo gig. My big, close, family headed to Hawaii this year for some holiday fun in the sun and work constraints kept my guy and I home. But his family needed him this year in the end so off he flew for some mom time, leaving me and our four-legged littles at home to be thankful together.

I’m not a tiny bit sad about it. I get to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (the best show of the year! :) ) with a hot cup of coffee propped up on the couch lounging in my pj’s and dreaming on a South Pole Santa float and balloon. I’ll likely talk to family and friends and spend some time on my gratitude list. I might cook up something special or just nosh on a turkey pot pie. :)

I think my point today is: there are no real rules for the holidays. Yes, I know there can be family “rules” but choose to help shape the holiday into something that makes you smile. Go spend time with your family and/or friends. Stay home with your significant other. Go out to dinner and don’t cook. Stay in and just be solo. Do a mix of it all. Just whatever you do, do it with joy! Decide you will add to the day and love the day and bring in the holiday season with joy. You deserve it.

Happy Thanksgiving! How I appreciate all of you.
